Mercabarna, as an institution linked to different cultural and civic initiatives in Barcelona, is one of the sponsors of the publication Tibidabo: Barcelona’s Magical Park.
The Spanish National ‘5-a-Day’ Association has distinguished Mercabarna and the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Wholesale Dealers of Barcelona and Province (AGEM) for their work in the promotion of fruit and vegetable consumption among children through the ‘5-a-Day’ campaign.
Some 200 representatives of wholesale markets the world over took part in the International Conference of the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) held in Mexico City from 23 to 25 April.
During April and May, Mercabarna received different professional delegations at the international level, all interested in learning about its workings and infrastructures.
Mercabarna became one of the stages for the documentary theatre production Cargo-Sofía Barcelona. Programmed by Barcelona’s Teatre Lliure as part of its programme of unconventional dramas (Radicales Libres), it played at the Food Unit for 10 days (late April to early May).
On 7 May, some 30 employees of Mercabarna’s Green Point took part in a training course on what to do in the event of a fire.
On 27 April, the Botanical Garden of Barcelona, located on the Montjuïc hill, welcomed the public to an open day to mark the opening of a new section featuring Australian flora. Mercabarna collaborated with the event by providing fruit to all the visitors taking part in the numerous recreational activities (hikes, planting workshops, consultation sessions and so on) held throughout the day.
During April and May, the Central Fruit and Vegetable Market offered numerous product promotions organised by the Spanish National Federation of Fruit and Vegetable Retailers.
On 22 and 23 May, Barcelona hosted the 1st International Congress on the Quality of Fisheries Products, organised by the Spanish Ministry of the Rural, Marine and Natural Environment.
