New occupational training courses

Beginning in mid-September, the Mercabarna Training Centre will offer new occupational training courses for the unemployed. Co-financed by the Government of Catalonia, the courses train shop assistants in cured meat products, butchery, fishmongery and floristry.

Lamb-line opening ceremony cancelled

Mercabarna management decided to suspend the official opening of the Slaughterhouse’s new lamb line scheduled for 12 June, owing to the effects of the transport strike on regular activity and the shortage inflicted on the overall population as a result.

World Fruit and Vegetable Promotion

The International Fruit and Vegetable Alliance (IFAVA) congress was held in Paris on 29 and 30 May. One session was devoted to analysing the different fruit and vegetable promotional campaigns focused on children and carried out in France, the United States, Canada and Norway.

Spanish transport strike affects Mercabarna

Mercabarna saw loading bays practically empty, stalls with scant pickings and aisles almost bereft of buyers. The cause was the transport strike from 9 to 13 June called in to protest of the government’s failure to curb rising fuel costs.
