Mayor of Avignon in Mercabarna
30th May 2008
Also taking part in the visit were representatives of the Avignon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, headed by its president, François Mariani.
The delegation wanted to know Mercabarna firsthand, with a view to paving the way for future institutional and commercial agreements between the Food Unit and Avignon’s MIN Wholesale Market. At the visit, the mayor and former minister of Family and Children’s Affairs said, “Unlike other wholesale markets, Mercabarna has a large concentration of businesses from different agrofood sectors. This generates synergies and enables buyers to stock up on all sorts of food products at one place.”
The delegation also noted the prominence of French products at the Markets. At present, 33% of the imported fruit and vegetable produce and 15% of fish sold in Mercabarna comes from Spain’s Gallic neighbour.
