Solidarity has been a feature of the early months of 2017, with Mercabarna's active participation in social projects.

Barcelona Magic Line took place on March 5, a charity walk promoted by the Hospital San Joan de Déu's Social Welfare scheme to finance social, therapeutic, international cooperation and research projects. Besides a financial contribution, Mercabarna contributed 15,000 pieces of fruit at the refreshment stations and collaborated with the Association of Florists in creating a floral arch at one point along the route.

Secondly, on February 16, a training session was set up in the fish market for youngsters from the youth centre, Casal dels Infants del Raval. In total, thirteen boys and girls who are currently training to become kitchen assistants attended. 

Finally, on March 22, more than 30 people donated blood, five of them for the first time, at the Mobile Blood Unit which the Banc de Sang i Teixits de Catalunya (Catalonia Blood and Tissue Bank) set up beside the Fruit and Vegetable Market in pavilion G.
