Mercabarna Joins the Barcelona-Catalonia Logistics Centre
Mercabarna will play a more high-profile role in the Barcelona-Catalonia Logistics Centre (BCL) platform as the food estate’s managing director Josep Tejedo has joined the executive committee of this association whose principal mission is to promote Catalonia as a logistics hub abroad.
With this incorporation, Mercabarna will make its voice heard and share strategic projects with other agents already on the committee and that have a specific weight in the field of logistics, such as Barcelona City Council, the city’s Port Authority, ADIF, Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat, AENA Aeropuertos, the Zona Franca Consortium and other representatives of institutions and businesses from different activity sectors.
Throughout 2013, BCL anticipates promoting different strategic paths, one of which has been determined as the creation of a taskforce dedicated to food distribution. This group will be led by Mercabarna and its main aim will be to foster one of the major future challenges facing the food estate and its wholesale businesses, i.e., making it the food hub of the Med, the main gateway of food in this geographical area for redistribution to the rest of Europe.
