Local Products Play a Starring Role in the 1st Symposium on Mediterranean Food Markets

On 4 June, more then 200 professionals connected to the world of markets, including executives from Mercabarna, attended the 1st Symposium on Mediterranean Food Markets, organised by the Barcelona Municipal Institute of Markets as part of the European MedEmporion project (also involving Markets in Turin, Genoa and Marseille).

Barcelona City Councillor for Trade, Consumption and Markets Raimond Blasi, was responsible for opening this workshop, which included a discussion of the management and renovation of Markets and the strategic importance of fresh products in these facilities. The attendees agreed that efforts were being made by the markets to promote values such as flavour, health and diet, encouraging high quality local produce which, in turns, strengthens the position of the Mediterranean diet and also the sustainability of the area.
