Mercabarna managing director Montserrat Gil de Bernabé represented the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM) when she took part in the high-level meeting organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enterprise and Industry on contractual practices in the food supply chain.

This was the first time a wholesale market representative had taken part in one of the meetings, designed to detect poor practices within the supply chain and define the main rules that should guide commercial relations between the parties in the chain.

The meeting, held in Brussels on 14 September, drew representatives of different EU directorates-general, the ministers of agriculture and finance of a number of member states, and associations, cooperatives and businesses from the agrofood sector. Discussions are expected to last until mid-2012.
