The Mercabarna lottery office was one of the talking points of Spain’s Christmas lottery draw held on 22 December.

The office sold 45 series of the prize-winning number 79250. Office manager Cristina Roig was unable to contain her excitement and nerves in front of the 20-odd journalists and numerous passersby who were banging on the doors of the office.

“In the 10 years I’ve been here we’ve never managed such an important prize. We’ve given away around 135 million euros,” she affirmed.

Ms Roig did not reveal the identity of the lucky people or businesses, who preferred to celebrate their win discreetly.
