On 2 July, Mercabarna’s management team visited the Lleida Agrofood Science and Technology Park, accompanied by the centre’s manager Josep Clotet and its science director Santiago Planas. Fostered by the City Council and the University of Lleida, the Park came into being to provide scientific backup to the food sector and to reinforce university research groups and the surrounding business fabric. The Agrofood Campus, Health Campus and research and innovation enterprises in sectors such as energy, telecommunications and so forth are grouped on a 100-hectare property.

Mercabarna’s delegation also visited the cooperative Fruits de Ponent, which specialises for the most part in the preparation and marketing of stone fruit.
