It also received the recognition of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

On 28 September, the GrausTIC association, made up of Catalan information and communication technology professionals, awarded Mercabarna the prize for ICT business excellence. This prize acknowledges Mercabarna's leadership in the implementation of telecommunications infrastructures and the promotion of information technologies on its premises.

In the mid nineteen nineties, when their use was still very limited, the first phase of the fibre optic network was deployed. The project entailed considerable risk, but the passage of time has shown that it has been highly beneficial for the companies in the food park, given that, among other improvements, it led to the provision of high-speed corporate data services, Internet and inter-connections, through on-site centres and external ones, by means of private networks.  

Fully aware that the ICT sector is evolving rapidly, Mercabarna is already working on its digital transformation, whereby it will seek to contribute to the strategic and technological progress of the market users' businesses. New technological tools will be incorporated into all the company's internal and external processes and the infrastructures of the Food Unit through this project.

Recognition after 50 years

In addition, on 19 October, the Chamber Day was held at the Casa Llotja de Mar, as the Barcelona Chamber's tribute to the companies and institutions which have continued to operate as part of the Catalan business community throughout this period. It was public recognition for Mercabarna, which is commemorating its 50th anniversary this year, as well as for 100 other companies from Barcelona celebrating a significant anniversary in 2017.
