Mercabarna is organising the next World Union of Wholesale Markets Congress

July 2017

The leading representatives of the food industry will be meeting in Barcelona next April. On the one hand, from 16-18 April, Mercabarna will be the organiser of the XXXIII World Union of Wholesale Markets Congress (WUWM), which will be attended by some 300 representatives of the wholesale and retail markets of 30 different countries. The 2018 edition will be developed based on the theme "The Markets of the Future: Socially Responsible and Efficient", and it will address aspects such as food waste, encouraging good habits for a healthy lifestyle, and sustainability.

On the other hand, and simultaneous to the congress, the biannual Alimentaria and Hostelco trade shows will be under way, two of the most important professional events in the food and catering business.

What is the WUWM?

It is a non-profit organisation made up of more than 800 wholesale and retail markets from around the world. Their mission is to promote the role of markets as suppliers of fresh, quality food at competitive prices, while guaranteeing food safety standards.
