In early October, the Generalitat, the Catalan Autonomous Regional Government, approved the creation of the Catalonia Food and Agriculture Prices Observatory. This organisation monitors how food prices change along the value chain, from the producer until the foodstuffs reach the consumer. The Observatory is made up of institutions and organisations linked to the Catalan food and agriculture sector, including Mercabarna. The aim of this tool is to provide complete transparency of information as regards food prices, as well as to help understand how these prices are established, and to foster dialogue between the various agents in the chain.
