University Degrees for Food Professionals
In line with this, food company professionals can retrain and acquire knowledge in new areas thanks to two university degrees that specifically address the food sector and that are being offered by the Triptolemos Foundation and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC).
These consist of a Master’s degree in Food Company Management and a Postgraduate degree in Wholesale Food Company Management, a course that is sponsored by the Mercabarna Dealers Association (Assocome).
According to Yvonne Colomer, Director of the Master’s and Postgraduate degrees, they are both different but complement each other. “The Master’s degree provides a general overview of the food sector, offering the tools, knowledge and skills to manage an agrofood company of the 21st century, whilst the Postgraduate degree focuses more on the specifics of a company that trades in fresh produce.”
The Master’s degree in Food Company Management has a special characteristic. The course is divided into four postgraduate courses that can be studied separately and which allow for training in different fields of business management (marketing, financial management, technological management and international trade).
Any Mercabarna professional who is interested in studying the Master’s degree is entitled to a 5% discount off the fee. The Triptolemos Foundation and the UPC will present an informative session on this degree on 7 July. Meanwhile, the dates, prices and syllabus of the Master's degree can be consulted on www.talent.upc.edu, or by calling 902 76 00 76 or by emailing isabel.delafuente(ELIMINAR)@talent.upc.edu.
Training for ‘fresh’ professionals
Similarly, October will see the start of the fifth Postgraduate degree course in Wholesale Food Company Management. To find out more details on this course, an informative session will be held on 15 July.
