Firms that manage their training plans through the Area are entitled to these financial resources by law in order to run courses for their employees.

According to Maite Palat, head of Mercabarna’s Training Area, “Many firms are unaware that this money is available to them for training actions and they don’t take advantage of the resources.” Altogether during 2008, these 84 precinct businesses used only 43% of the assigned credit.

Ms Palat stresses the need for businesses to support employee training, since “firms with well-trained staff are more competitive and better prepared to stay afloat in times of uncertainty such as we are now experiencing.”
